Popping corks are a great tool for catching monster redfish and gator trout in the Charleston Area. The popping or clacking noise that the cork creates is very effective in our rivers. The cork also allows your cork to float down the river giving your bait the best chance to be taken. Live baits, such as shrimp, crabs or smaller bait fish work great with popping corks.
According to the Sport Fishing Magazine the popping cork has 2 main draws.
The main draw of the popping cork is an attention-getting clacking or clicking sound created by beads hitting a foam cork along a metal through-wire. Second, when a cork is jerked by the rod tip, the lure or bait presentation jumps off the bottom like a fleeing bait.
